Tank Calibration Services (Tank Strapping)

HMT Inspection provides tank calibration, commonly known as "Tank Strapping". This is the term applied to the procedure for measurement of storage tanks, barges, ships, and/or any liquid bulk container. These measurements provide the necessary dimensions for calculation of capacity tables. Our services meet and exceed all API Standards for tank calibration.

  • Aboveground Tanks

  • Underground Tanks

  • Bottom Surveys

  • Spheres

  • Horizontal Tanks

  • Ships

  • Barges

  • Tank Trailers

Storage Tank Calibration

Considerations for calibration of storage tank:

  • Newly Constructed

  • After any structural modifications

  • In conjunction with an API 653 Inspection

  • Minimal 15 years intervals as recommended by API

Considerations for re-computations of calibration chart

  • Change in service products reflecting different gravities

  • Change in floating roof weight or leg position

  • Reference gauge height variation

Liquid Calibration by Positive Displacement Meter

Liquid Calibration by Positive Displacement Meter is the most preferred method to determine quantities through irregular floor areas and through the floating roof critical zone. This is standard procedures for tank trailer calibration and railroad car calibration.

Barge and Ship Calibration

Should you be building a new barge, modifying an existing barge, or changing to a new gauging system that may require calibration charts, HMT is ready to obtain the data needed to perform this work efficiently to eliminate any downtime and keep your equipment working for you.

Certification

HMT Inspection's written Policy and Procedure Manual for tank calibration assures all tank calibration work is performed in a uniform manner. All tank calibration work performed by HMT Inspection is done in strict accordance with the latest American Petroleum Institute (API) Manual of Petroleum Measurements Standard and/or International Organization of Standardization (ISO) Standards and sound engineering principles.

All Tank Calibration work is performed in house including all calculation and chart production. Once the calibration chart is complete, it is verified and signed by the calibration manager, ensuring that all measurements and computations have been performed in accordance with the above standards.

Sample Chart

HMT Inspection can customize calibration charts to meet your needs. Options include, innage or ullage, feet and inches, decimal feet, or metric units. HMT's calibration department is managed by a team with over fifty combined years of tank calibration experience and whose names are recognized within the calibration industry. This experience, along with HMT's API 653 certified field technicians, will guarantee accurate field measurements and a quick turn-around time.
